Installation is easy. Locate a double pole 220 Breaker that is used on a regular basis so if the unit stops functioning you will know right away in order to make your warranty claim. Connect the wires per instructions that come along with the unit. If the breaker ever takes a lightning hit you may have to reset the breaker. If the breaker does not reset, the unit must be disconnected and then replaced. The breaker will then be able to be reset after the unit is removed. These units have been known to take up to 6 or 8 strikes before they stop working, depending upon the severity of the strike. As long as your panel has power, the LED should remain lit. When it no longer stays lit, it is time to replace the unit.

Surge protection or surge arresters go by various names for various uses. Breaker panel surge arresters, panel surge arresters, whole house surge arresters, whole house surge suppression, breaker arresters, electrical surge arresters and many more, but there are those that are for simple surges such as when the power is restored after a power outage, or just a typical surge variance in electrical supply and then there is the dangerous type, that which is lightning. Very few surge arresters are actually made to take the millions of volts of a lightning strike gives. You will be hard pressed to find one that is made specifically for lightning strikes for less money and actually has a wonderful warranty like SYCOM. It is quite obvious that if SYCOM offers a $25,000.00 warranty on all electrical equipment that suffers damage from a lightning strike while being protected by their SYCOM unit, their product must be good. Not all appliances are covered but the majority of the expensive ones are.
