Grounding Plates and Supplies

When using aluminum materials and conductor cable you MUST use a bi-metal connector and switch to 5 feet of copper conductor cable just before your ground rods or plates. You CANNOT use aluminum for grounding your system. All lightning protection systems require at least two grounding locations. Ground rods are inexpensive and must be at least 8 feet long x 1/2 inch diameter, copper clad and go down 10 feet into the ground. Ground plates are more expensive but sometimes worth the cost because they only have to go down 2 feet and makes the job much easier. If you are using ground rods, you still have to dig the 2 foot hole to get the ground rod down 10 feet so you are still pounding at that point and if you run into rock you're sort of stuck. We charge an additional $25 per order to ship ground rods because UPS considers them oversized. We suggest you try your local building center to get your ground rods.
